There should be elo decay to encourage people to continue dueling. It's sad to see everybody camping with high elo and dodging duels. There's even people with comparatively low elo who care so much about it that they only duel noobs and dodge duels to preserve it. It's even worse when people make "1v1" games instead of duels because they want to protect their precious elo. I'm thinking after 1 week of not dueling AND you've played at least 2 games your elo takes a penalty of 15 (Basically dueling someone with the same elo as you and losing). After the penalty, the 1 week timer starts over. Players 1000 elo or below are exempted.

I'll say every season the elo is reseted to 1000. But u add this option as a compensation https://atwar-game.com/forum/topic.php?topic_id=37867&board_page=4

Just make all dueling done in an anonymous lobby and there is no more duel dodging.

I've previously stated that essentially 1 v 1 IS a duel. so maybe admin can automatically reset 1 v 1 option to duel. if clans worry that 1 v 1's are used for training simply pit 2 fairly even players against & use senior player to teach them the game. it's not rocket science it's commitment & dedication all round + added bonus of gaining elo.

We can't do that. Some people make practice 1v1s just to test out expansion and other things.

I actually agree with WD for once. Overwatch and League of Legends have this. We should too.

you complained in opening post that people make 1 v 1 in order to avoid duels which do you want 1 v 1 or duels or simply maintain current practices ?

The only way to get the same reinforcement as in a duel is to have somebody else join too. Sometimes people just want to dick around and test stuff.

Doesn't that reinforce the arguement in favour of 1 v 1's being ditched as an option in favour of all 1 v 1's equal duels ? otherwise the less scrupulous can "dick around" yet gain when others are seriously trying to gain/progress ?

I agree with WD on this, 1v1's are still very good for helping people test expansions and try out new stuff. I don't think you should negate that, it's not the same trying out expansions by yourself in a private game because when you actually 1v1 someone to test out expansions you can see how people will counter you. The experience is a lot different and should stay an option

But then the elo would deflate drastically, and the highest elo peaks will be roughly the same size as the seasonal elo peaks.

LoL does it only with high ranks, so there should be a higher limit than 1000 elo to apply this And this should only be applied to season elo, not the general elo

as a non dueler i find this rather fun and i would most likely get in to it if it where to be a ranked system (not based on actual rank like R4 v R4 but if you win said amount of games you play against a play near that score lie a player who is 5-6 this season v a player who is near that)

It should apply to both elo. If you quit the game, fine you keep your elo. But if you're still actively playing and dodging duels, then you should lose your elo.

Getting rid of regular elo and keeping seasonal elo instead seems like a better alternative. You could also have an all-time- best elo appear somewhere In your profile too.

One thing is dodging, another one is to keep losing elo due to not playing, which is what you proposed in your first post.

Might this be somewhat a knee jerk reaction to last seasons get a good lead and sit on its c.w. elo ? try any clan sitting on it loses 1/2 of + elo 2 wks prior to end of season if they fail to play minimum number of games per wk during season. that would apply to all clans & individuals .

I like this idea. Among those who are elo hogging some players will play weaker opponents to keep elo, some of them will stop bothering about keeping elo and play more duels. Overall more duels played.
