Relatively simple idea. Marines have 3 def Submarines have 5 def Stealth planes have 3 def. Sentries have 4 def. The idea is to take away 1 defense from all of these units and add a new defense bonus called "stealth" It would be like one of the defense bonuses we have now It would look something like this +1 How it works is if the unit is unspotted, then it gets +1 def so it returns to our current values. This would add a new aspect of skill to strategies that rely on spamming stealth units such as marines by punishing players who let their marines get spotted. As of now, marines have the same defense as no-strat militia and can be costly to kill without attack units like tanks. it would replicate how clandestine military units in real life would be jeopardized if they got spotted. Having a bunch of unspotted marines or stealth units reinforce a city that is going to be attacked would give the marines their full defense values during the battle. This would be similar to how a defender can gain the advantage of surprise by secretly reinforcing an area. I don't know if the coding would allow such an idea to be implemented though.

I don't see the point of it. Take away a defense and then having to rebuy the defense in upgrades? Seems like a waste of time and sp to me

Upvoted However, By 'spotted' do you mean no longer in Stealth? Because Marines and subs can be spotted even while in Stealth with sentry planes so there would be no way for the game to figure out if they had been spotted or not, unless they took part in a battle. Instead, just give them -1 defence as proposed along with a +1 bonus while in cities no matter if they've been spotted or not. This would be better than complicating it with the 'spotted' and 'unspotted' bonuses. The defence nerf would also make the 'Field Officer' rare unit more valuable and important than now. Its possible I've just misunderstood you. In that case, could you explain further?

No. Gameplay is fine as it is, don't propose useless changes that would mostly kill the 2 most fun strategies.

Maybe if they were in a city or in a stack with other units

I think he means in-stealth. When marines are in stealth you can spot them with sentries and stuff.

Well lets say you attack a city the enemy owns, there could be unspotted marines there. In which case the bonus applies during the battle

I agree with Cive here, I don't believe that stealth units need what is essentially just a nerf. The system as of now is fairly balanced. The time and effort that would be required to implement such a system would be disproportionate to the actual effects or benefits that such a system would have on the game. Stealth-strategy based players already have enough to deal with, and such an implementation would simply disrupt the gameplay they've become adapted to. Ultimately, I find this idea quite interesting, but practically I don't believe it has any potential for application on Atwar.
