Iran v America?

Surely it wouldn't go too bad, I highly doubt it would be as terrible as Vietnam, especially with the advances in technology since then. How would the US take it? A full onslaught of troops or dozens of tactical strikes throughout the country? How would Iran retaliate? I envision they take their troops and equipment and try to stall the war, hoping war weariness will take over the Americans before the Americans take over them? US obviously has the tactical advantage, but the positioning, allies, and attitude of the country definitely make me wonder. One of the more important questions is if it would escalate, which I personally think is 50/50. Russia would be the main force to uphold Iran, and I don't doubt they would contemplate getting involved, whether simply supplying the Iranians, or actually sending soldiers. If Russia does get involved, will the world see it as Russia attempting to escalate to conflict for their own gain, or will everything immediately be placed on the shoulders of the Americans? England is a guaranteed ally if Russia joins, though I don't know how France and Germany would act, and I haven't even gotten to China or the Japanese yet, though if the Chinese do respond, we should be able to count on the Japanese as a ally? I just thought it was both fascinating and terrifying to think about, the possibility of World War III is one that would surely cause more destruction than the previous ones, but are people over hyping the situation? I think so. Although Iran could hold out if they played pure defensively, but whether or not the world is willing to risk another world war on saving a torn down middle eastern country is something I cannot answer.
