Put on your thinking caps folks; its tactics time.

lets start off with your basic tank rush; start near someone, and just mass tanks in all your cities and blitz them as hard and fast as you can hoping they have minimal offensive capabilities.

Next we have, continuing in the same vain: Tank drops. Load up your tanks into an air transport, or regular transports for that matter, and drop them behind enemy lines or on enemy reinforcements, or enemy anything really, to cause total devastation.

The faint:Sending a good amount of empty transports with a few full ones to confuse enemies. Works especially well if you send the empty ones to people's capital's because they get jumpy and defensive are are less likely to notice the full ones dropping units at key points.

Bottling:this is pretty handy and I feel like a lot of you should know this just off common sense but still. Sending units to make a defensive line around a narrow or key point. Like 300. Block an army from getting to key areas while you hurry to send reinforcements before they fly their army over you.

Thats all I can think of right now, I'll edit in more later as I come across/remember them. If anyone has any others, feel free to add them. But keep it to basic things for now, we'll start an advanced tactics thread later.

Thats some kind of strategy based on your gameplay. Such thoughts should culminate in some kind of beginners advice (tutorial) or something in my opinion. So, good ideas. I wouldn't post my own instead to be honest ...

Thats true, but some strategies are useful in any game. We all keep our secrets, but its about making the game more enjoyable and challenging. Its not really fun rolling over 10 people who have no idea what they're doing.

The unexpected attack:
Fight your enemy as usually in a tank general vs tank general battle

While you are fighting, make some marines you think would be enough to hold his capital (usually between the 15-40 in a small map, unless he actively defends it.)

Send those marines towards his capital, while you are fighting him. He won't know what happened to him! (I suggest doing so the week before reinforcements, so you can put defensive troops in his capital!)

Either he does not have enough men or he will use his men to take it back over and be slightly distracted at the side where you are already attacking him with tanks.

Note: You can also use this tactic to take over all his undefended countries in the back, make reinforcements there and give him a hard time.

Always grab the minor islands and territories on a map that allows late game joining. The last thing you want is 200 bombers coming from Hawaii straight at your empire.

If you are a confident player, you should always go after the admin of a game on a world map. Kill him off, and keep killing off the new admins until you have the control of the game. Tweak the settings to your liking, giving you 10 minutes if you need it, turning off late game joiners and rejoiners, and just tell the others to deal with it. Otherwise a smaller nation can take advantage of you by not giving you enough time to manage your large empire and slowly chip away at you.

Alright, sorry for the delay, I've been super busy at work, thanks to justin beaver.

This is something I don't see much but might be used at higher levels of play.

The defensive triangle/box/square/insert shape name: Basically, you've got to get a lot of units from point a to point b and either walking is gonna take too long or is too dangerous; to solve this problem grab that stack of bombers or infantry, or tanks or battleships and set them up in groups of 2 or whatever number you feel is appropriate and form your shape around your transport(s) and move them that way, since nothing can get through a defense line in under one turn you can either intercept it, or drop your units and not lose those 200 tanks in that air transport squad.

Sorry for reviving old thread.

I feel that this should be pretty basic, but simultaneous stealth attacks.

Basically: Capture as many capitals as you can with stealth, on the very same turn, right before reinforcements arrive. The more capitals you capture, the better. This works well because a lot of people tend to stack defense in their main capitals, and leave the rest slightly undefended. If there are defense lines, no worries, just attack the lines a turn in advance. Watch out for sentries though.

Also, your strategy doesn't limit you. Don't skimp out on bombers just because you're using Tank General, or something like that. Obvious enough advice, but I used to do that when I was a noob.

It's pretty satisfying seeing half the U.S. turn orange in one turn.

Good idea for coastal capitals: instead of auto-producing infantry, auto produce destroyers. They have almost double the stats of infantry, and get a defence boost against planes. My favorite comebacks are from a mix of infantry, destroyers, and stealths from a certain city above...

Objective: Find out what you want to do and do it!

Offensive: Go out and get it.

Mass: Come to the battle with overwealming force

Economy of Force: Utilize all your forces don't leave 20 tanks lounging in the bush

Maneuver: Pick were you fight in such a way that sucks for your opponent, do this though movement

Security: Be save don't let 20 marines take your capital

Surprise: Take em down with a punch they don't see coming because their security sucks

Simple: keep it simple stupid, or else the demon Murphy will make you pay
